Scattered showers and strong SW winds with fierce gusts were the order of the day. We opened only one net early but had to stop when the rain started. It lasted for about an hour and we restarted. But, due to the winds that were billowing all but the most sheltered nets, we closed most of them much earlier than normal. We ran the full complement of ground traps and these did quite a business as birds were looking for “easy” food. (An American Tree Sparrow, #752, has been retrapped over 20 times since his initial banding on January 27th – and every day for the past 8 days, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day!
