December 3rd & 4th – It’s Still Happening

I have to admit it: when I’m away from banding for any length of time I get the shakes. It’s an addiction, I guess. But the migration ended for us on November 7th…..right? Well the birds don’t seem to think so. After a banding hiatus I was out again yesterday and today to get my fix – we have nets up by the 3 feeders. And over the 2 days we banded 57 birds: 11 yesterday and 46 today. As well, we handled another 37 previously-banded birds (11 and 26). So things are still on the move (or at least moving around, looking for the best environment to see them through the Winter).
A very pleasant surprise - a late White-throated Sparrow.
