May 4th – Birdathon!!

Ruthven Banding Station – Haldimand Bird Observatory – gets much of its equipment needs met through funds provided by YOU through the Birdathon. Your generosity has allowed us to expand what we do (owl and hummingbird banding, for example) and how we do it (the development of a young people’s group, another example).

We have plans to keep progressing. Here’s some of the things we’re giving serious consideration to: erecting a Motus tower to monitor bird (and maybe bat) migration; outfit the banding lab with the electronics necessary to demonstrate to school groups and other visitors facts about birds through pictures, maps and videos; continue to develop the young people’s skill set through funding a trip to New Liskeard to learn from Bruce Murphy how to band Boreal and Long-eared Owls. So you see: funds generated by the Ruthven Ringers, our Birdathon Team, will be very well spent.

To support the Team you can donate on line following the (simple – Ben assures me they are) steps below. Or, if you prefer, you can sign up when you visit the banding lab. Just so you know, we plan to see around 150 species. So $.01/species will cost you $1.50; $.10/species $15.00; $1.00/species $150. The sky is the limit.
