The “owl team” (Nancy, Christine and Chris) was at it again tonight and into the wee hours of Saturday morning. It was slightly above freezing and they even had snow for a brief time. But it was worth it when, at 12:30, they turned up a Saw-whet Owl in Net #9. This bird was a “foreign recovery” – it had been banded somewhere else. We’re pretty excited to see when and where it was banded and then try to figure out how it got to be here.
Up until the capture it had been very quiet. But the field notes state: “As we were processing the owl, the coyotes started to yip and howl east of the highway!”
