You could tell today that Fall was progressing (is that the word to use) toward Winter: cold and windy, even when the sun was out. At no time did I feel any compunction to take my sweater off – and that is a first for the Season. Bird-wise, things are moving on as well: decreased banding numbers (49) and less variety (38 species for ET’s). I was a little surprised at the bird numbers as usually this kind of weather results in increased numbers. I would imagine that the birds didn’t move much last night from farther north.

The first round produced good numbers – not outstanding numbers – but after that it was pretty slow going with no Cedar Waxwings or Rusty Blackbirds throwing themselves into the nets at closing time. White-throated Sparrows and Juncos continue to pour through.
