It was not an auspicious start; in fact, it was sort of ho hum. It was 22 degrees at 6:00 when we were opening nets and got hotter from there. Also, there was a SW wind that certainly was not in a migrant’s best interests. The slow pace gave me a chance to catch up on cutting the grass in the net lanes which was getting quite thick in my absence. There were a lot of birds around (e.g., 52 spp. for ET’s) but they tended to be in the treetops.
