Another very warm and sunny day at Ruthven. Banding was steady with 60 birds processed (43 new, 17 recaps). The banding highlight was the nice diversity of warblers, and a young Indigo Bunting. There is apparently a large Red-breasted Nuthatch/Purple Finch invasion underway in southern Ontario. We didn’t have any Purple Finches today, but there was a Red-breasted Nuthatch hanging out in one of the large spruce trees. Another highlight was a flyover PILEATED WOODPECKER, a species I have never seen at Ruthven before.
